ENGLISH NEWSOM CELLARS:
From Texas Soil to Downtown San Angelo
At English Newsom Cellars, every bottle begins with a deep respect for the land and the people who
work it. Owned by grape grower Steve Newsom, a fourth-generation cotton farmer from Levelland,
Texas, the winery is rooted first and foremost in farming.
Because Steve is both owner and grower, English Newsom Cellars uses 100% of its own fruit, carefully
overseeing production from grape to bottle. Before opening the winery, Steve and his wife, Cindy,
spent decades growing and selling grapes to renowned Texas wineries. In 2018, they brought that
experience full circle by opening English Newsom Cellars in Lubbock, later expanding to
Fredericksburg in 2024 and San Angelo in 2025.
Today, the winery grows approximately 100 acres of vineyards on the Texas High Plains, home to 24
grape varieties. The region’s hot, dry, breezy climate and higher elevation create ideal conditions for
varietals with origins in France, Italy, and Spain.
Since opening its Downtown San Angelo tasting room in June 2025, English Newsom Cellars has
quickly become a destination for locals and visitors alike. As the only winery-owned tasting room in
San Angelo, it offers an inviting atmosphere, regular events, and live local music every Wednesday
evening and Saturday afternoon.
Guests can also join the wine club for exclusive discounts, special benefits, and access to small-batch
wines and new releases.
Over the last eight years, English Newsom Cellars has earned 524 medals from international wine
competitions, including more than 175 gold medals or higher. Yet at its heart, the winery remains true
to its roots: farmers and growers first, proudly bringing Texas-grown wine to Downtown San Angelo.
