Dear Friends of Downtown San Angelo,
As we welcome another exciting edition of Downtown San Angelo’s Historic Magazine, we are grateful
for the incredible momentum and energy flowing through our downtown district. Over the past few
months, we’ve witnessed remarkable growth, with new entertainment venues bringing fresh excitement,
vibrant nightlife, and fresh experiences to our community. At the same time, new retail shops are
opening their doors and showcasing the latest fashions and unique finds for both men and women, adding
even more charm and character to the heart of San Angelo.
Progress is also underway on the Chadbourne Streetscape Phase II construction project. While the
construction may create a few temporary detours and “road blocks” — pun intended — we remain
optimistic and enthusiastic about the lasting beauty and improvements this project will bring to the
northern portion of Chadbourne Street. The future of downtown is bright, and every improvement helps
create a more welcoming and vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.
Now more than ever, we encourage everyone to continue supporting our small businesses, local
entrepreneurs, restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. Your support fuels the growth and success
of downtown San Angelo and strengthens the spirit of our community. Positivity, patience, and
participation make all the difference as we continue building a better downtown together.
So get up, get out, and get moving! Explore downtown, attend events, shop local, and enjoy all the
wonderful experiences our historic district has to offer.
This edition of the magazine proudly features the life and legacy of Elmer Kelton, one of San Angelo’s
most celebrated literary figures, along with stories highlighting other notable achievements of individuals
with deep San Angelo roots. We hope these stories inspire pride in our community’s rich history, talent,
and enduring spirit.
Thank you for being part of downtown San Angelo’s continued growth and success.
